Hello all,
I have been doing some research into my family history but have now come to an abrupt halt, so I thought I might give the site a go.
My great grandparents were Anthony Devitt and Mary Anne Hennigan who were born in Dublin in or about 1850. Their children were: Richard Patrick, John, Anthony, Maurice and Katharine. Maurice was my grandfather and I have all his details but other than the dates of birth of the other children I know nothing.
Any information on them would be much appreciated. Regards, Ken

Hi to the Dublin Devitt researcher Im am researching Devitt family name for a friend in Thailand who has researched his Devitt family connections extensively he has linked up to every possible site containing the name Devitt/Davitt/Dewitt variations on the name. He was hoping to Connect his Margaret Devitt a Sextoness for the Church of Ireland in Killybegs but with leanings to Methodism to a Jim Devitt who lived in Ardara and is related to my family who are Lockharts. He traced one of his Devitts back to a Devitt employed as a coachman to Lord Bear in Co Londonderry Devitt fell in love with Bears Daughter and they ran away together. He thought the Killybegs Devitts and my Devitt relatives might be one and the same maybe someone out there knows something.

I too am researching the family history. We have been able to trace the first in my branch of the Devitt family to arrive in Sydney NSW Australia in the 1850s. We know the ship sailed from Plymouth England but it has been impossible to find for sure when he went from Ireland to England and how long he was there before boarding the ship to sail to Sydney. We can not be sure even if he passed through or lived in Dublin. I will come back to this page with more precise details to see if anyone over there can help us with some leads. Regards robertdevitt
