Hi everyone, my name is Bridget, I am researching my Devitt ancestry. I am originally from Victoria, Australia although now live in QLD. My Devitt ancestors came from County Clare, Ireland, their names were Anne Devitt and Mary Devitt, parents John and Margaret/Mary and I don't know anything else about them. They lived in Tower Hill & Killarney in Victoria. I'd love to hear from anyone who has a connection.
Looking forward to getting to know you all, Bridget.

Hello there.. Im a Devitt from County Louth In Ireland. My Dad was from North County Dublin but I think his parents were from County Kildare. I'll have to do more research I think... I just found this site today, its really great to see so many Devitts from everywhere.

This is just so wild. I am still learning of my heritage per se. My Dad was born in Mena Arkansas. I was born in Torrance California but raised in Oklahoma. I'm now living in Cairns Queensland Australia. I am hoping to get some more information from my Dad about our heritage, but I actually have a lot of Irish heritage on both Dad and Mom's side of the family. On my mom's side it is Moore. Hope to post more soon.

Hi I have just seen your post. My wife shares Michael Devitt as her great grandfather so she is a cousin of yours, and I have been putting together the prior Jersey Devitt history on Genes Reunited. I knew some of what you said, though not all, certainly not his Boer war experience/dates. I am also particularly interested in his wife's background (who I thought was Annie Rogers), and also their other children. Please let me know if you can help with further info./photos etc. SF

Hi Niall,
yes. My family (fathers side) is from Clare. My grandfather was Patrick Devitt. Probably a million Patrick Devitts there. He had something like 9 or 10 siblings. He came over to the U.S. in 1911 I believe. He was something like 22 or so when he arrived. He finally settled in Chicago and died in the early 1960's.
Welcome to the board Niall!

Hello from a branch of the Devitt family from London (UK) for as many generations as I've found out about. Although my grandfather (Daniel Arthur Devitt) who fought in the Great War had a sister (Mable?) who emigrated to Canada after the War.
I was told about our names' history that it comes from the Netherlands where several hundred years ago owing to religious persecution the "deWitt" (meaning = white) left that area and moved to England &/or Ireland and thence further west. Anyway it's a story.

My Great grand mother was Rebecca Ellen DEVITT who was born in King Williams town in South Africa in 1881. She married John Charles WEST in Port Elizabeth in 1902. They had a number of children including my grand mother Hilda Alice WEST along with Monica, Joan, Irene. I believe there was also a son called Bernie. I am trying to find the names of Rebecca Ellen DEVITT's parents. I have hit a brick wall with no leads. All the documents I have of Rebecca's do not mention her parents names. Any help would be greatly appreciated Kind Regards Shane Cooke Melbourne Australia
